Money & Taxes guide
Freelancer Tax Dashboard โ Set Up Every Tax, See What You Owe Each Month
Set up every tax component once and see what you owe each month, automatically.
The Freelancer Tax Dashboard pulls together everything you've billed in a calendar month and works out what you owe across whatever taxes you've told it to track โ income tax, social insurance, health insurance, VAT, or your own custom rates. It also generates ready-to-scan payment QR codes for EUR payments. Find it at tidypapers.com/tax-dashboard/. This guide covers every field and setting.
Not tax advice. The dashboard's own disclaimer states plainly: "No. Preset rates are examples only. Always verify current rates and rules with your tax authority or accountant before relying on any number shown here."
Section 1 โ Billing period and invoice log
- Month โ a month picker (
type="month"). A billing period is one calendar month, as the page states directly. - Invoice log table โ columns: Date, Invoice #, Client, Base amount. Rows can arrive two ways: log here automatically." Every invoice you build and download using the TidyPapers Invoice Generator appears here under the month matching its issue date, with no action needed from you. See How Your Data Moves Between TidyPapers Tools for exactly how this works. (date, invoice number, client, base amount), for income that didn't go through the Invoice Generator, or invoices from before you started using it.
- Automatically โ the page states: "Invoices from the invoice generator
- Manually โ click "โ + Add invoice row โ" to add a row by hand
- A running totals line appears below the table once you have rows.

Section 2 โ Payment orders
Below the invoice log, a "Payment orders" area shows one card per tax component you've set up (see Section 3), each showing that component's owed amount for the selected month and its payment details (covered under Section 4 below). This section is generated automatically from your invoice log and tax component settings โ there's nothing to fill in here directly.

Section 3 โ Tax components
The page explains the distinction between two kinds of components: "'My tax' is computed on your period base and is what you owe. 'Client-charged' (like VAT) is collected from clients and shown separately." A note above the presets adds: "Set your tax components once and they save in this browser, so you won't need to rebuild them every month."
Five ways to add a component:
- "โ + Income tax โ" โ adds a preset "my tax" component named "Income tax," starting at 0% (you fill in your own local rate).
- "โ + Social insurance โ" โ same pattern, named "Social insurance."
- "โ + Health insurance โ" โ same pattern, named "Health insurance."
- "โ + VAT (client-charged) โ" โ adds a preset component named "VAT," set to the "client-charged" type instead of "my tax" (money you collect from clients and pass on, not money that comes out of your own income).
- "โ + Custom component โ" โ adds a blank component you name and configure yourself, for any tax or contribution not covered by the four presets above.
Every component, once added, has these editable settings:
- Name โ editable text, e.g. "Income tax."
- Rate โ a percentage of the period's combined billed amount (e.g.
15means 15%). All presets start at 0% โ you must enter your own country's actual rate. - Type โ "my tax" (what you personally owe) or "client-charged" (like VAT โ collected from the client, not your own cost).
- Beneficiary name โ who the payment goes to (e.g. your tax office).
- IBAN โ the beneficiary's bank account number, used to generate the payment QR code.
- Payment code โ the payment reference/code your tax authority requires, included in the QR code and payment details.
- Show on invoice โ a toggle available for "my tax" components only (never for "client-charged" ones like VAT); when on, this component's amount appears in the informational tax-summary block on invoices you build in the Invoice Generator (see Invoice Generator, Every Field Explained).

How payment and the SEPA QR code work
Once a component has a rate, beneficiary name, IBAN, and payment code filled in, and you bill in euros, the dashboard generates a SEPA credit transfer QR code (the EPC069-12 format used across the EU) for that component's payment card. Scanning it with an EU banking app fills in the amount, IBAN, and reference automatically โ nothing to retype. Two situations replace the QR code with a plain-text payment-details block instead, per the page's own FAQ: "SEPA QR payments are EUR-only by specification. If your site currency isn't EUR, or the beneficiary IBAN/amount aren't filled in yet, the QR is hidden and you'll see a plain-text 'copy payment details' block instead."

Invoice display settings
Two settings (accessible from the Invoice Generator's checkbox and the tax summary block, not from this dashboard page directly) control how "my tax" components appear on invoices:
- Invoice tax block โ off by default; the Invoice Generator's "Show my-tax summary on invoice" checkbox turns it on.
- Display mode โ Combined (one summed line) or Separate (one line per tax) โ matching the Combined/Split choice available for regular invoice tax rows.
Clearing your data
"๐๏ธ Clear all saved data โ" wipes every component, invoice row, and beneficiary detail you've entered on this page. Per the page's privacy FAQ: "Every component, invoice row, and beneficiary detail is stored only in your own browser's local storage. Nothing is ever uploaded or sent to a server" โ so clearing it here is the only way to remove it, and there's no way to recover it afterward.
